'Your fitness program is only as good as your assessment'

When training my clients I make sure to assess them thoroughly before committing to any fitness regime. People may have imbalances in the body without effectively creating dysfunction. But unless the imbalance is treated inevitably, pain or discomfort will arise.

People who have suffered injuries are likely to be weak in those areas. They need to be retrained so that they can become injury-free and functional again. Too many people get injured again and again in the same area. Strengthening and finding the root cause of the injury is the key. Taking a holistic approach is important to see why injuries, pains or aches occur. It is often that a chain of events throughout the body leads to injury in a specific area but the root cause could be elsewhere in the body.

With every new client, a Comparative Range of Motion assessment between muscle groups is what I do at the initial meeting and thereafter every 3 to 4 weeks. This ensures measurable progression and results. A lot of pain and dysfunction comes from poor posture and not being able to utilise certain muscles to there optimum capabilities.

In todays world a majority of people spend most of their time sitting at a desk. The human body is just not designed for sitting down. Whenever you sit down, remember that you are switching off your postural muscles. These muscles need endurance training to 'hold' the body upright in the correct posture whilst standing and walking. My programs incorporate the use of Swiss Balls whenever needed in order to switch these dormant muscles on thus strengthening them. I have helped numerous people with low back, shoulder, hip, knee, neck, ankle and interscapula pain. Just read my testimonials page to see what my clients think
